The last couple of weeks have seen significant snowfall for Aomori in Northern Honshu, setting up Aomori Spring Resort for a great opening day on 16 December 2017.

Our in-house backcountry guide, Mr Kenji Nodaka, reported a healthy snow base of 275cm at 1200m and up to a 90cm base at the bottom of the gondola on 14 December, two days before opening.

In addition to the new snow, we have a range of new developments taking place around the resort, from the base buildings, to the hotel, to the halfpipe and website. Let’s take a look at some of these new offerings at Aomori Spring.

Bigger & Better Halfpipe

Not content to have Japan’s biggest halfpipe, we’ve gone a step further to increase the length and pitch of the 22ft pipe. The improved dimensions of Aomori Spring’s halfpipe mean that it is comparable to other Olympic specification pipes around the world.

In addition, we are pushing for a much earlier halfpipe opening date and are hopeful of kicking off in the first week of January. Watch this space and our social media channels for updates.

Bigger Terrain Park Crew

This season our terrain park builders, Development Snowparks, will bring a crew of three highly experienced freestyle groomer operators from New Zealand to join our existing Japanese team. This means you can expect to see faster building of park features, with a more extensive range of jumps, boxes and rails with the park taking shape from early January.

New Burton Store

We’ve turned the former rental shop at the base of Quad 1 into a Burton Store. The shop will be stocked with a full range of Burton snowboards, boots, outerwear and accessories.

All rental equipment will be supplied from our Gondola Building rental shop. See our trail map for more details.

New Live Trail Map & Snow Report

In line with the modernisation and improvement of resort facilities, we have upgraded our digital presence with a new online snow reporting system.

The snow report includes the latest on snowfall, weather conditions, snow depth, trail status, as well as a live trail map showing lift status.

Expanded Hotel Gym Facilities

With the increase in numbers of freestyle ski and snowboard athletes training at Aomori Spring, and the expansion of our Aomori Camps program, we have seen demand increase for high quality gym equipment. The gym at Rockwood Hotel and Spa has been upgraded, with more machines and free weights, covering a larger space in the hotel basement area.
